Blossom Place first opened it's doors to young women aging out of the foster care system who are in need of housing, support and resources 5 years ago. After learning about our mission, a representative from the Soroptimists International of the American River group invited us to share at one of their meetings. Our initial contact began in the back room of a Mexican restaurant in Auburn and has grown into a wonderful partnership. This group of business and professional women are committed to helping women and girls achieve their potential, realize their aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong, peaceful communities. These ladies are exactly the type of role models our Blossom girls need to rise above their current circumstances and the sea of statistics that would limit their potential.
As an extension of their support, the Soroptimists have consistently provided cozy pajamas for our girls each Christmas, brought us lovely new bath towels, surprised us with flower arrangements for the girls on Valentine’s Day and stepped up with a brand new stroller and other baby supplies at a recent baby shower for a new arrival. Annually the Soroptimist group also offers a substantial cash scholarship to a single mom committed to continuing her education and this year one of the Blossom girls was the recipient! From lovely gifts to individual notes of encouragement, these women have come along side us to support our young women in such a beautiful way. We are incredibly grateful for them this holiday season!
